The “dog days” of August are over and kids are back in school. Now’s a great time for a refresher course on how to upsell in the drive-thru. Start by making sure your drive-thru parts and equipment, especially your headsets, are in good working order. Then coach your team to:
- Match their upsells to the moment. When seasons change, so do appetites. As temperatures cool off, think about upselling hot chocolate or coffee rather than ice cold lemonade.
- Don’t be too aggressive. There’s a fine line between suggestive selling and being too pushy. Teach employees how to ask for the upsell in a positive, enthusiastic tone, but not to come across as a pushy salesperson.
- Relate the upsell to the customer’s order. Upsells that don’t jibe with the customer’s needs usually fall flat. Match the upsell to the customer’s order, such as fries or a drink with a burger, or orange juice or coffee with a breakfast burrito.
Clear communication with the customer always helps to increase upselling. So if your headset system – perhaps the most critical drive-thru part of all – needs servicing or replacing, call CE at 877-731-0334.
We repair all models of headsets, including the EOS | HD high-definition audio headset from HME, so don’t let static or malfunctioning headsets put a damper on your upsell efforts.
